Assistant Network Engineer
$6296 to $7818 Monthly

Under immediate supervision, receives training and performs a variety of technical duties related to the installation, operation, maintenance of LACOE and its client’s local, wireless, and wide area networks (LAN/WLAN/WANs); assists clients by answering questions about computer equipment, telecommunications, and network operations; and performs related duties.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • LAN/WAN topologies, concepts/practices, hardware, software, terminology, protocols, circuit lines, cabling and telecommunication circuit lines
  • Telecommunications terminology
  • Digital test equipment and usage of hand tools
  • Common symptoms associated with malfunctions of each network component, common diagnostics and trouble-shooting procedures
  • Methodology/basic principles of physical installation including facility layouts, testing of data lines and equipment configuration
  • Record keeping practices and procedures

Required Education and Experience Education:  An associate’s degree or equivalent number of college units (60 semester or 90 quarter units) including at least 15 semester or 22.5 quarter units in computer science, information technology or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience:  One year of experience in the implementation and maintenance of networks, telecommunications support, or helpdesk support.

Equivalency Provision:  Current certification in Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST), CompTIA Network+, Fortinet Certified Fundamentals, or Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Entry Level Technician (PCCET) may substitute for one year of required experience.

Additional Requirements:  A valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation or ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.

Hybrid remote schedules may be available.

Selection Process Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a performance examination and structured interview.
