Job Description
Clinical Research Coordinator Job Summary The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) provides support for two projects in the Department of Public Health Sciences, supporting the U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk (U.S. POINTER) as needed, and primarily with the Greater Sacramento Women's Brain Health Program under the direction of the study site PIs and supervised by the GROW Project Manager.
The U.S. POINTER trial is a ground-breaking and well publicized study designed to evaluate the impact of multiple lifestyle modifications on cognitive function and brain health among older adults without dementia/cognitive impairment at study baseline. Lifestyle/behavioral modifications will incorporate physical exercise, cognitive training, nutrition, and management of vascular risk factors at two levels of intensity. Primary outcomes are repeat cognitive test scores while secondary outcomes include the collection of indices of physical function and cardiometabolic indicators, among others.
The Greater Sacramento Women's Brain Health (GROW) Program, focused in Oak Park and surrounding neighborhoods in the Sacramento area, aims to fill the gap in research on sex-&-race-based drivers of dementia. The GROW research study will recruit middle-aged and elderly women for a longitudinal observational study. Women participating in the study will complete annual health screenings, questionnaires, and cognitive testing with the research team.
Through following women over time, we aim to identify and better understand risk and resilience factors for brain health. The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will obtain informed consent, conduct outcome testing including cognitive assessments, assist with screening and recruitment for the GROW study, collect physical measurements and complete functional assessments, and assist in coordinating many other aspects of study operations, following the study protocols and strictly adhering to IRB and HIPAA regulations.
The CRC will also conduct research visits in home, the community, or other research clinic settings and will conduct participant visits on most days of the week. The CRC will act as a representative of the study in the community and within the institution.
