Fitness Specialist Location Houston, TX :
Position Description
Under general supervision, the Fitness Specialist plays a pivotal role in promoting health and wellness through exercise, education, and guidance. In this role, the Specialist will work closely with clients to discuss health and fitness topics and assessments, determine exercise prescriptions, and design and implement effective fitness programs tailored to individual needs, goals, and limitations. Incumbents in this role are expected to have a deep understanding of exercise physiology, nutrition, and motivational strategies to help clients achieve their fitness goals and lead healthier lifestyles. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operations and Safety: Performs various tasks to maintain the day-to-day operations and safety of the fitness center such as upholding a clean and safe work environment, ensuring clients' safety during workouts by monitoring for signs of fatigue or discomfort, and administering first aid or CPR in emergency situations.
- Client Assessment: Administers various fitness tests to determine the baseline metrics as well as conducting comprehensive assessments of clients' fitness levels, health history, goals, and limitations and analyzing assessment results to develop personalized fitness plans.
- Program Events: Collaborates with fellow fitness team members and cross-functional departments to create and organize monthly workshops and events focused on fitness-related subjects. These offerings include classes, seminars, and workshops designed to educate clients about exercise principles, nutrition, and overall well-being, both in physical and virtual settings.
- Exercise Instruction: Provides clear instructions on fitness equipment and machines, demonstrates and guides clients through proper exercise techniques and forms to ensure safety and effectiveness, and offers alternatives and modifications for exercises to cater to various fitness levels and physical abilities. Instructs group fitness classes in facility.
- Client Management: Fosters strong relationships with clients by actively listening to their concerns addressing their needs and escalating more complex issues to the Fitness Supervisor as well as providing ongoing communication regarding the monthly schedule and upcoming events.
- Motivational Support: Provides clients with motivational support, positive reinforcements, and celebrating milestones and progress to inspire clients to stay committed to their fitness programs. Addresses any psychological or emotional barriers that may hinder clients' adherence to their fitness routines.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field and one (1) year of experience as a fitness instructor, fitness trainer, or in a related role AND
- CPR Certification and CPT/GFT Certification
OR - Associate's Degree in Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field and three (3) years of experience as a fitness instructor, fitness trainer, or in a related role AND
- CPR Certification and CPT/GFT Certification
OR - High school diploma and five (5) years of experience as a fitness instructor, fitness trainer, or in a related role AND
- CPR Certification and CPT/GFT Certification.
Experience: - Experience with fitness assessment tools and techniques.
Licensure: - Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Trainer
- CPR Certification required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport and maintain client relationships.
- Ability to adapt exercise programs for various fitness levels and age groups.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and exercise principles.
- Knowledge of proper exercise progression and regression.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

General Information
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Typical Workday: Monday-Friday; Weekends (if necessary).
WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Fitness Center Environment
WORK EXPOSURES: - Noise Level: Possible exposure to loud noises in the environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force. Must be able to stand for long duration of time.
