Duties
Example of Duties
- Responsible for redacting videos as requested by the Attorney General, Judges and District Attorneys.
- Respond to a variety of crime scenes to assist with proper documentation, recognition, collection and preservation of evidence.
- Use an alternate light source to examine scenes for body fluids, hairs and fibers.
- Use skills to process evidence items in the lab for latent fingerprints.
- Use photography skills to properly document evidence recovered at a scene or in a lab setting.
- Manage all evidence submitted from officers and investigators to evidence storage.
- Follow all current laws governing the collection, processing and maintaining of evidence. Responsible for the research of all criminal cases which have evidence to determine dispositions.
- Responsible for testifying in court as an expert witness regarding video/audio analysis, evidence processing and crime scene processing.
- Scientific examination, comparison, evaluation, of digital multimedia evidence.
- Utilize the MobileVision digital camera system to trouble shoot problems; burn, collect and store videos, and retrieves videos as needed.
- Respond to businesses or homes to extract digital multimedia evidence.
- Maintain the evidence room, lab, and additional evidence storage areas to ensure all property is accounted for and stored in a cataloged orderly manner.
- Oversee the disposition of property/evidence to include setting up property hearings and destruction orders in compliance with city ordinance, state and federal law.
- Use powders and chemicals to process evidence and scenes for latent fingerprints and subsequent lifting/photographing the prints.
- Monitor the patrol officers evidence supplies and replaces items as needed.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a forensic science or criminal justice field.
- Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities will be considered.
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Certification from the International Association for Identification (I.A.I.) or Law Enforcement Video Association (LEVA) preferred.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge of:
- Operation of a SLR digital camera, cyanoacrylate (superglue) fuming chamber, sirchie fingerprint chamber, sirchie dry-safe drying chamber, spex mini crime-scope alternate light source kit and forensic optical comparator.
- Use of various powders and chemicals.
- Operation of a Krimesite short wave ultraviolet source imager.
Skill in:
- RMS, Ocean Systems/AVID and Mideo Digital imaging software
- Operating vehicle lifts
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Photoshop
Ability to:
- Use verbal and written communications skills effectively
- Adapt to change and be flexible
- Be receptive to training and learning new skills related to the job
- Must be honest and trustworthy
