Job Description and Duties

The Position is headquartered in Sacramento.

Under the direction of the Information Security Officer (ISO), the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is responsible for performing a wide range of security tasks to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of CDA information systems and information assets by supporting baseline security operations. The ITS I regularly collaborates and communicates with Division of Information Technology (DIT) staff, business partners and leadership. The ITS I is responsible for monitoring the CDA technical environments, investigating security alerts/events, conducting forensics analysis, performing security reviews and tests, maintaining security tools/systems, and evaluating existing and implementing new security controls. The ITS I monitors and sustains working knowledge of the threat landscape, risk management processes, operating systems, cloud security, identity and access management, network architecture and protocols. The ITS I assists with development and implementation of security controls related to networks, cloud security, Security Information & Event Monitoring system (SIEM), and security tools. Identify, contain, and remediate security incidents in coordination with the CDA ISO.

Working Conditions

The physical work location of the position is designated at the department's headquarters location, a three-story building and standard office modular workspace located in Natomas. The duties of the position require sitting for long periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings whether they are digital (i.e., Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams, etc.) or in person.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


• Experience using tools such as security information event management (SIEM), vulnerability scanner, cloud access security broker (CASB), firewall, intrusion detection/intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS), packet sniffer, or other security tools.

• Knowledge of forensic tools and procedures.

• Knowledge and experience using common scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and YAML

• Experience using industry-standard methodologies to perform analysis.

• Strong understanding of computer systems, networks, and security protocols.

• Knowledge of technical architectures and practices utilized to develop comprehensive security architectures.

• Possess problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to work in an organized and efficient manner while under pressure to meet challenging time constraints.

• Ability to adapt to change priorities and manage multiple concurrent assignments and projects.

• Ability to communicate and provide guidance with highly technical and business-oriented customers.

• Ability to provide technical guidance to others.

• Ability to produce technical and non-technical documentation that helps people to understand and use products or services.

• Ability to stay up to date with the latest cybersecurity trends and threats.
