Are you passionate about wine and eager to deepen your knowledge while advancing your career? Sweet Basil is offering a unique opportunity for the right individual. We are seeking a dedicated Wine Apprentice to train under our Sommelier/Wine Director. This role offers hands-on learning and a deep dive into our extensive wine portfolio of over 500 selections. You will also have the opportunity to interact with guests daily and apply your expertise in real-time .  

Key Responsibilities for the Ideal Candidate:  

• Organize liquor orders in the hallway.  

• Manage the To-Do list, which may include tasks such as:  

• Updating wine menus by crossing out 86ed selections.  

• Cleaning the wine cellar in the main dining area.  

• Tidying up the wine cellar in the liquor room, etc.  

• Attend menu meetings.  

• Actively engage with guests and promote wine sales throughout your shift (this is your top priority).  

• Ensure full interaction with guests and staff, maintaining productivity even during slower periods.  

• Assist with side work during downtime, including:  

• Running drinks.  

• Polishing glassware.  

• Supporting team members with clearing tables.  

• Close out your shift, ensuring all tasks are completed:  

• Restock wine based on orders.  

• Polish carafes and reorganize the wine credenza.  

• Help service staff with polishing glassware.  

Shift Hours:  

• Your hours will align with the serving staff, typically from 3:30 PM until closing, though this may vary based on last-minute requests from the Wine Director to assist with restocking.  

Compensation:  

• $18 per hour, plus gratuity while working as an assistant sommelier.  

• During the off-season, shifts may be reduced due to lower covers, but picking up shifts from bar and service staff is highly encouraged.  

Uniform Requirements:  

• As a representative of Sweet Basil's Wine Department, appearance is key. These guidelines are non-negotiable:  

• Personal Appearance:  

• Hair should be clean and neatly styled . If applicable, it should be pulled back while working as an assistant sommelier or behind the bar.  

• Facial hair must be kept shaved daily. No growing facial hair while on the clock.  

• Attire:  

• A clean, pressed button-down shirt (long-sleeve or ¾ sleeve, as designed). It does not need to be tucked in if the shirt is designed to be worn untucked.  

• Clean, pressed pants in any color.  

• Polishable dress shoes.  

• Socks should be color-coordinated with the rest of your attire.
